Mental Health and Psychosocial Support — Recovery-Oriented, Trauma-Informed Practice (NDIS)
Good mental health support is built on a respectful relationship, a recovery mindset and an understanding of trauma — and the support worker is often the person who sees someone most. This practical course builds mental health and psychosocial support capability for support workers and their supervisors. It covers understanding mental health and psychosocial disability; recovery-oriented practice and the CHIME principles; trauma-informed support; communication, trust and boundaries; recognising and responding to distress, crisis and suicide risk; and looking after your own wellbeing. Every lesson ends with a realistic, fictional scenario.
This course is an educational aid for the care sector, not clinical or mental-health advice, and not a substitute for a person’s treating team, their recovery coach, or your organisation’s policies. Support workers are not clinicians. If you or someone you support is in crisis, call 000 or Lifeline 13 11 14. It is non-accredited; no CPD points or accreditation are claimed.
