Helping someone take their medication looks simple — and is one of the highest-risk things a support worker does. This course gives support workers a safe, confident, in-scope approach to assisting with medication in disability and aged-care settings.

Across six short lessons you will cover your role and its limits, the rights of medication, checking against the chart and label, forms and safe storage, PRN and consent, chemical restraint and covert medication, responding to errors and adverse effects, reporting, and a simple safe-support routine — with a realistic scenario in every lesson and a printable quick-reference card.

Written for busy care teams in plain Australian English, and grounded in the NDIS Practice Standards, the Medication Safety Standard and quality-use-of-medicines good practice, cited in each topic.

Scope: This is general education for support workers who assist with prescribed medication. It is not a medication-competency or administration course, not clinical advice, and not a substitute for the person’s medication chart or the advice of the prescriber, pharmacist or nurse. Learners must only assist with medication within their role, training, organisation’s policy and the person’s plan, and seek qualified advice for anything outside routine assistance.
